Abstract:	「草津溫泉」與兵庫縣的「有馬溫泉」、岐阜縣的「下呂溫泉」並稱日本三大名泉；草津溫泉泉質屬於含硫化物酸性明礬泉，對消除疲勞，對神經痛、肌肉痛、慢性皮膚病及婦女病、刀傷、糖尿病、高血壓等都具極高療效。踏入明治時期，日本開始盛行對溫泉的科學研究，而從昭和時期開始，憑著日本在溫泉醫學和分析化學方面的進步，溫泉在醫療上的功效得以證實，別府溫泉的豐富溫泉資源。
